OUSTER LIDAR

1.Company establishment and product service

Ouster, Inc., the American lidar technology company headquartered in San Francisco, California, was founded by Angus Pacala and Mark Frichtl in 2015, along with two other former Stanford University classmates, after working at laser-based sensing company Quanergy.  It builds high-resolution, digital 3D lidar sensors for use in autonomous vehicles, industrial, robotics, drones, mapping, defense, and security systems. Its sensors produce images from ambient infrared, with software that enables a vehicle's sensing and mapping functions.

2.Company customers and marketing network

Pacala said that Ouster's current customer base includes more than 400 companies, covering industries from autonomous vehicle to industrial robots, agriculture, surveying and mapping, national defense and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Ouster's global lidar distributor network consists of global partners who provide customers with local procurement, on-site demonstrations, integrated expertise and continuous support. At present, the distributors of ouster products cover the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific region. In the end of December 2019, ouster officially announced the establishment of offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong, China, and reached cooperation with many domestic companies to jointly develop the sales market of ouster products in China.

3.Company product advantages

A. Low cost in higher resolution

Ouster's OS-1-64 sensor is nearly 85% lower than the competitor's sensor, making it the most economical sensor in the market. For the first time in the industry, Ouster separates the improvement of cost and resolution by placing all key functions on scalable semiconductor chips.

B. Simpler architecture

Ouster's multi beam flash lidar sensor contains a simpler architecture than other systems. The OS-1-64 contains only two custom semiconductor chips that emit laser light and sense the light reflected back to the sensor. This method can replace thousands of discrete and well positioned components in traditional lidar with only two.

C. Smaller size and weight

because the sensor structure is simpler, Ouster's equipment is smaller, lighter, and more power efficient, which is very suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), hand-held and backpack mapping applications, and small robot platforms. With lower power consumption and higher resolution, UAVs and handheld systems can run longer and scan faster, significantly improving system productivity.

Suzhou Soy Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. reached a cooperation agreement with Ouster in October 2019.
